This was my second time to Piedras Negras. As it had been 3 years since my first visit, and the world has changed so much, I was curious to see what our team would do. I wanted to be a blessing to the staff and those they serve through challenging times. I didn't know what blessing they would be to me.
The interns showed a lot of leadership in the tasks they were assigned. They led daily teams through the experience of helping a relocation of a church in the city that needed labor and materials to be a more habitable worship space - they led daily teams to a hospital to minister to family members who were in caring for sick ones - we visited and brought joy to kids in a school as they heard the word of the Lord before competing in a pinewood derby competition - they led the teams to experience a great cultural immersion in the city followed with a family home visit - we assisted in English classes they were leading - taught us how to cook local food! (20lbs of ground beef for burritos) Wow! What blessings.
With over 40 folks from other churches and ministries I felt as part of a great family, no strangers, all with the conviction of service.
