New perspective and humble serving

Our team went to serve and bless the pastors, staff, and their families that serve the communities of 20Schemes in the west of Scotland. We did things for them that they don't have time for because they are sacrificing everything and truly living a life of one at a time. This included, painting, yard work, tearing down a green house, working on cars, fixing a counter top and building a gate. They are a group of church planters, growing each church from the ground up! This is in a country that over 51% doesn't believe in God. Even though we were there for them, we all agree that more than that, the people of 20Schemes taught us what it truly means to live a life on mission and for it to cost you something. There were no complaints or excuses, they lived in the schemes with their families so that they could truly get to know and reach the lost. It is truly an example of how we should be living out the great commission that Jesus laid upon all of us and how the people in Acts 2 lived a life giving it all up for the kingdom and to help each other along the way.

Regrettably I had to ask myself an honest question of, “How much am I truly willing to give up my comforts, plans, ideas, and way I want to live my life to answer the call of living 100% on mission for Christ and reach the lost?” I have said way too many times to count I don’t want to live in that area, or my kids to go to that school, or even want my family to be around those people!! I grew up in a scheme, or what we would call here, the projects, and yet I still treat those areas like the bad place. God this week gave me a big dose of conviction and grace. I will forever be changed by what I experienced and witnessed, and the family that I formed with the people of 20Schemes and my team.

What we can all do now and moving forward is continue praying for them, their mission, and their churches as they grow. Pray that more people will answer the call to serve, that there be a revival and the people of Scotland will come to know Jesus, and especially for the staff, missionaries, interns, and volunteers serving faithfully on the ground.

While the church as a whole certainly needs financial support, the individuals doing the day-to-day ministry work need support as well. They are not yet a large, well-established church with abundant resources like many of us may be used to. Right now, one of the greatest needs is for people who are able and willing to support these missionaries personally so they can continue serving in the roles God has called them to. Their work is making a difference, and consistent individual support helps ensure these ministries can continue growing and reaching people for Christ.
