I am a fifth generation Christian. My home church growing up was the South Louisville Christian Church, which is now part of the SE campus family.
My great father was a Methodist minister in VA, and I had wonderful grandparents who were believers and passed down their faith to my Dad, and then to my sisters and I.
We went to church every Sunday, Sunday night and on Wednesdays.
My sisters and I were involved in the choir, youth programs, HS, and church sports.
We were always doing something with the church.
I attended Beth Haven Christian HS, and then went on to Asbury University.
Asbury University was a big part of our family history.
My Father was a graduate and several family members were alumni.
Asbury University changed the trajectory of my life, and it set my feet on the right path.
When I married and started a family I began to drift away from God, and I shifted my focus to other things, and I began to take my Christian heritage for granted.
I went to church from time to time, but I just wasn’t pursuing God like I should have.
After a divorce and starting over I wanted to pursue God, and I leaned in more to my faith. I had taken advantage of my faith way too long.
When I surrendered myself completely in 2018, I began a closer journey with Jesus.
I was sharing my story with some women in my “Women’s Purpose group”, and one of the women said, “What a privilege to have the heritage you had growing up. She shared what a pagan family she grew up in and would have loved having a Christian upbringing.
I began to realize that I took for granted my Christian heritage, and maybe even made church for many years about myself.
I asked God to forgive me. I knew that I had a purpose and assignment, and I needed to finish what God had destined me to do long ago.
I had wonderful parents and grandparents who prayed for me through the years. I know their prayers touched my life and set me on a course to fulfill my purpose.
Sometimes we forget and we lose our way, and pride gets in the way. I surrendered to what he wanted to do in my life.
I now volunteer as a Women’s Bible study facilitator, care ministry mentor, and encourage other women to walk in their destiny, and fulfill their purpose. It’s all for his Glory and honor. He has a good plan for us.
