Volunteer Opportunity: Disaster Recovery in Asheville, NC
Dates: November 10-16, 2024
Join a Southeast Christian Church team for an impactful week of service in the Asheville, North Carolina area, as we support the local communities recovering from Hurricane Helene. This hands-on volunteer opportunity is ideal for those looking to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by the disaster.
What to Expect:
As a daily volunteer, you will be part of a dedicated team working alongside Convoy of Hope (COH), to assist in recovery efforts. Your tasks may include:
- Skilled Labor: Debris removal, possible use of heavy machinery, chain saws, etc.
- Safety: All safety guardrails must be adhered to, such as use safety goggles, gloves, chaps, etc.
- General Assistance: Providing support with various tasks as directed, which may include organizing supplies, light demolition, or other recovery efforts.
Who Should Apply:
- Individuals who are physically able to perform heavy manual labor.
- Those who are compassionate, adaptable, and ready to work as part of a team.
- Experience using required equipment is required.
Logistics:
- Location: Asheville, NC, with specific sites to be determined based on Convoy of Hope assessments.
- Lodging: SECC has secured accommodations for the team and is paying the costs of lodging.
- Transportation: SECC will cover the cost of gas and 12-passenger van rental. If team members choose to drive own vehicles, they will be required to cover the cost of their own gas.

Requirements
Prerequisites
- SECC current Volunteer Application must be on file to work with minors or disabled adults.
- MinistrySafe Certification must be current/renewed and on file.
- Church Owned/Rented Vehicle form must be completed and on file.
- Personally Owned/Rented Vehicle must be completed and on file.
- Valid/Current Drivers License must be submitted or on file.
- Copy of Current Vehicle Insurance must be submitted or on file.
- Disaster Response Legal Waiver must be submitted or currently on file.
- SECC Team Covenant must be signed and on file.
Responsibilities
- All team members need to be willing to work as a team.
- Flexible attitude. Needs are continually changing.
- Humility and a heart for the individuals impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Restrictions
- Must be 18 or over.
- If driving, must be 25 or over.
