2024 Hurricane Helene Disaster Response - November Teams
Imagine joining a disaster-response team on a trip to areas affected by Hurricane Helene. Participants gather with a mix of anticipation and trepidation, knowing they’ll be venturing into regions still grappling with the aftermath of the storm. The desire and urgency to help is palpable.
Upon arrival, the reality sets in: The environment is physically demanding. Teams engage in various tasks, from debris removal, structure fortifications, mucking out homes, etc. The weather is always changing, and the work often stretches into long, exhausting hours. Teams quickly learn to adapt, relying on one another for support and encouragement.
Services at work sites are limited and comfort becomes a luxury as volunteers embrace the spirit of sacrifice, united by a common purpose.
Despite the discomfort, there’s a profound sense of fulfillment. The camaraderie among team members grows stronger as they witness the resilience of the local community. Each small victory—helping a family recover a cherished item or completing a critical repair—reinforces their commitment to service. The experience is a powerful reminder of the strength found in Jesus Christ, leaving a lasting impact on both the volunteers and those they serve.
