20 Schemes pastor, Andy Prime, has requested 6 volunteers to help with outreaches in the Gracemount community. .Gracemount is a housing scheme in Edinburgh with a population of approximately 3000 people. Although it’s a tight-knit, friendly, and protective community, it falls into the ‘Most Deprived’ category of the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD). In regards to income, employment, health, education, housing, and crime, Gracemount is ‘statistically significantly worse than the Scottish average.’ However, the biggest need, the most urgent crisis, and the most crippling poverty in Gracemount is spiritual. Most living there are spiritually dead, trapped, lost, unreached and unengaged by the church. Though there is a small Church of Scotland congregation in Gracemount, the need is great and the labourers are very few. Without the sustained witness of a gospel church, with the vision to engage and reach those who are ‘most deprived’ with the gospel, this need will remain unmet.
All trip members must have reached their 18th birthday by the first day of the trip. Due to the amount of walking and physical activity typically seen on a mission trip, participants need to be in good health and ready for a high-energy week. A visa is no longer required for U.S. citizens to enter Scotland. Aside from the SE required forms, 20 Schemes has additional requirements to complete including a volunteer agreement, a background check from Chekr.com, downloading WhatsApp on your phone and completion of the "What is the Gospel Course." Your team leader will help you through this process.
Please note :
- All trip participants must be an active Southeast member or attendee for at least 6 months with verifiable attendance/participation.
- Daily basic travel insurance is included in your trip costs. However, for those 70 and above, the accidental death benefit is reduced and there is no disability benefit.

Requirements
Prerequisites
- Complete online application and $100 non-refundable deposit.
- Complete all required forms and releases on Service Reef; the Southeast Volunteer Application: and Ministry Safe Course by the deadlines set.
- Valid Passport – the expiration date on your passport MUST be 6 months beyond the return date of the trip, and you must have sufficient blank entry/exit pages.
- Each team member must also complete all 20 Schemes forms and requirements.
Responsibilities
- Meet all paperwork and trip cost deadlines.
- Adhere to the Team Covenant at all times. *see Sign Now form.
- Attend all team meetings and mandatory retreat.
- Trip cost does not include cost of your passport, immunizations. spending money, coffee/snacks, parking at or meals in airports.
Restrictions
- Must be 18 years or older and physically able to perform tasks set by the partner ministry.
- All trip participants must be members of Southeast Christian Church or have verifiable attendance of six months.
- Must be able to walk 2 miles a day over uneven terrain.
Preparation
- Pray.
- Discuss with your family.
- Start the process for obtaining or renewing your passport as soon as possible, if you do not have one. State department recommends allowing 12 weeks for processing.
