Recovery Sponsorship (Mentor)

A sponsor is a mentor who comes alongside a resident in their recovery journey. 

A sponsor is a friend who steps into someone's life during a time of deep change and transformation.

Purpose
Recovery from past hurts, habits, and hang ups does not happen in isolation. One of the keys to a full and abundant life is mentorship.

How it works
1. Apply via our volunteer form at: awakeky.org/volunteer
2. Awake provides a training session to prepare you to step into mentorship.
3. Matching - our men's or women's director will reach out when a resident is ready for a sponsor. 
4. Intro - meet with the resident to talk and see if you both feel the match will work. If not, that's ok! There will be other opportunities. 
5. Once you have found a good match you will meet regularly with them to talk about how their journey is going and encourage them.

Note
You do not need to have a history of addiction to be a sponsor. If you do have an addiction history, we ask that you wait to sponsor until you reach 1 year of sobriety.
